Description of Externship/Practicum:
Our externship program is designed to provide clinical training to exceptional doctoral level students in clinical/counseling/school psychology. Trainees will receive supervised training in counseling/psychotherapy, comprehensive training and supervision in mental health crisis intervention.

Length of externship (in months): 9 – 10 months
Start Date: Orientation in August 2022
End Date: Mid-May 2023 (although may work through June if additional hours are needed)
How many hours a week are expected of extern?: Trainees are expected to work 16-20 hours/week., trainees schedule two 8-hour days and one 4-hour day. Individual schedules are arranged over the summer prior to the start of the training year. Trainees may adapt their schedules during the year, in consultation with their individual supervisors and the training director.

Minimum level of readiness (any prior experiences or level of training required for applicants: Masters and doctoral level trainees
Preferences: NTHC generally only considers doctoral students who will be in their 3rd through 5th years of training at the time of their placement. However, consideration is given to rising 2nd-year doctoral students who have previous clinical experience.
